In a tough CIF varsity football championship game played at the Santa Ana Bowl Friday Dec. 7, 2007, the La Habra High School Highlanders emerged victorious over the Fullerton Indians with a final score of 16-6. This victory not only made La Habra CIF champs but crowned a banner year in which La Habra went undefeated for the first time in the school's history. As the assistant defensive coordinator and speed trainer for the Highlanders, Coach Verdugo is particularly proud of his defense. La Habra's Head Coach Frank Mazzotta gave most of the credit to the defense for the Highlanders' victory and third division title. "We shut down their running game and made them earn every inch," Mazzotta said. Coach Verdugo applauds the drive, determination and commitment of the '07 varsity team and believes that it will serve as a model for all future La Habra football teams.
